Esther López Estrada obtained her Degree in Physics in 2009 (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). In 2010, she obtained an FPI scholarship to develop her Doctoral Thesis at the Instituto de Energía Solar (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM), developing the characterization of Intermediate Band Solar Cells (IBSCs). After her doctoral thesis defense (2016), she was hired as a postdoctoral researcher at the Fraunhofer-ISE in Germany, one of the reference centers in the field of photovoltaics. During her two-year Postdoc, she developed the processing of thin photovoltaic cells with rear mirrors for wireless power transmission applications, obtaining a remarkable photovoltaic efficiency of 68.9%. After this period, Esther returned to the Instituto de Energía Solar to work with thermo-photovoltaic converters (used in energy storage systems) by means of a Postdoctoral fellowship for Talent Attraction. In March 2021 she got an Assistant Professor position at the UPM, where currently she develops her teaching and research activity. Recently, she has also become one of the co-founders of the spin-off THERMOPHOTON, whose objective is to design, produce and commercialize devices for energy generation and storage.
